Anxiety Therapy for Individuals in Centennial, Colorado

Anxiety Counseling & Therapy

Anxiety can show up in many ways. Constant worry, racing thoughts, difficulty sleeping, physical tension, or a sense of restlessness that makes it hard to be fully present. These experiences can feel overwhelming, isolating, or even discouraging.
In anxiety counseling, my goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you can explore what’s happening in your mind and body without judgment.

Together, we’ll identify the patterns that keep anxiety active and develop practical strategies to manage it. This may include learning skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) approaches, all tailored to your unique needs.

Common Topics in Anxiety Counseling Include:

  • How anxiety shows up in the mind and body: Anxiety can affect thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations — from racing thoughts and worry to tension, restlessness, or a sense of being “on edge.”
  • Daily impacts: Anxiety can disrupt sleep, energy levels, appetite, and focus, making day-to-day life feel more challenging.
  • Stress triggers: Work pressures, relationship challenges, school demands, or life transitions can all intensify anxiety.
  • Forms of anxiety: I work with a range of experiences, including generalized anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, and phobias.
  • Coping skills: Together, we can develop grounding, mindfulness, and breathing techniques that help you feel more present and calm.
  • Therapeutic approaches: I integrate evidence-based methods like CBT, ACT, and somatic practices to help you understand and manage anxiety in ways that fit your life.
  • Trauma and anxiety: I help clients safely explore the overlap between past trauma and anxiety, supporting healing without overwhelm.
  • Lifestyle supports: Simple routines — regular exercise, healthy sleep habits, and balanced daily structures — can strengthen resilience.
  • When to seek help: If anxiety is interfering with work, relationships, or your ability to enjoy life, seeking support can help you regain a sense of balance and control.

You can have more… and do more.

When you come to therapy for anxiety, I help bring more peace and contentment to eliminate your anxiety.

I’ll show you how to process and understand what you fear, not just talking about it but explaining why you feel scared and why you can’t overcome the fear.

When we experience worry, we’re unable to move on from the fear alone.

I come alongside and show you what is possible and doable for you to change and process. I give you realistic homework that will help you see immediate awareness and change your anxiety. I do this by breaking down what is working and not working and giving you the therapeutic tools to change and make it work.

I bring confidence back into your narrative and remind you that you can handle so many things – and you don’t need to worry about them.

Let’s show the world that you’re not afraid!

You don’t have to be anxious. You don’t have just to survive.

We can make real changes, and you can be less anxious.

Anxiety Counseling FAQs

What is Anxiety Counseling and How Does it Work?

Anxiety counseling with me is a one-on-one, collaborative process designed to help you understand and manage your anxiety. Together, we explore the sources of worry, how anxiety shows up in your thoughts, emotions, and body, and the patterns that keep it active.

Using practical, evidence-based strategies, we develop coping tools tailored to your unique needs — from grounding and mindfulness techniques to cognitive and behavioral approaches. My goal is to help you reduce stress, build resilience, and regain a sense of calm and focus in your daily life.

What Are the Symptoms of Anxiety?

Anxiety can show up in many different ways, and everyone experiences it a little differently. Common symptoms include:

  • Racing or repetitive thoughts
  • Restlessness or feeling “on edge”
  • Irritability or heightened sensitivity
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Rapid heartbeat or shortness of breath
  • Muscle tension or physical discomfort
  • Difficulty concentrating or staying focused

Understanding how anxiety shows up for you is the first step toward managing it. In therapy, we explore these patterns together and develop strategies to help you feel calmer, more grounded, and more in control of your daily life.

What Are the Different Forms of Anxiety?

Anxiety can take many forms, and understanding the type you’re experiencing can help guide effective support. Some common forms include:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Persistent, chronic worry about everyday life.
  • Panic Disorder: Sudden episodes of intense fear, often with physical symptoms like a racing heart or shortness of breath.
  • Social Anxiety: Fear or discomfort in social situations, often accompanied by worry about judgment or embarrassment.
  • Specific Phobias: Strong, sometimes overwhelming fear of particular situations, objects, or experiences.
  • Anxiety Related to Trauma or Life Transitions: Stress and anxious feelings that arise from past trauma or major changes in life.
What Are the Treatments for Anxiety?

Anxiety counseling is highly personalized, focusing on strategies that fit your unique experiences and needs. Common approaches include:

Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques (CBT): Identifying and reshaping unhelpful thought patterns that fuel anxiety.

Mindfulness and Grounding Exercises: Helping you stay present and calm in the moment.

Somatic Tools: Practices that support regulation of the nervous system and reduce physical tension.

Tailored Coping Strategies: Together, we develop practical tools you can use daily to manage worry, stress, and anxious energy.

The goal of treatment is not just to reduce anxiety, but to help you build resilience, feel more in control, and engage fully in your life. I provide therapy in Denver and online across Colorado, combining evidence-based methods with compassionate support.

When Should You Seek Therapy for Anxiety?

If anxiety is affecting your daily life such as making it hard to focus at work, sleep well, enjoy relationships, or feel present, it may be time to consider therapy.

Anxiety can show up at any stage, whether your symptoms feel mild or overwhelming, and seeking support early can help you manage it more effectively.

In counseling, we work together to understand your anxiety, identify triggers, and develop practical strategies to regain calm, confidence, and balance.

Do You Work With Children and Teens?

My practice focuses on adults, and I do not see clients who are 16 years old or younger. I do, however, occasionally include spouses or partners in therapy sessions on a case-by-case basis, but I do not provide couples therapy.

This allows me to provide focused, personalized support for each individual while maintaining a safe and effective therapeutic environment.

How Long Are Sessions?

Standard therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. For clients who may benefit from shorter or longer sessions, I also offer 30-minute sessions or extended sessions as needed. This flexibility allows us to tailor each appointment to your needs and schedule.

Do You Offer Telephone or Video Chat Sessions?

Yes! I offer teletherapy and video counseling sessions for all services provided by Penrose Counseling to residents of Colorado. Because I am licensed in Colorado, I can provide telehealth services to anyone within the state, but I am not currently licensed to offer therapy in other states..
