Individual Therapy & Counseling
Life doesn’t come with a guidebook, and at times it can feel overwhelming to manage stress, transitions, or personal challenges on your own. Individual therapy provides a private, supportive space where you can process what’s happening and discover new ways to move forward with clarity and confidence.
My approach is collaborative and compassionate. Together, we’ll identify the patterns that may be keeping you stuck and build practical skills to help you cope more effectively. I draw from evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), while tailoring sessions to your specific goals and needs.
My hope for every client is that therapy becomes a place where you feel understood, supported, and empowered. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship struggles, or simply seeking personal growth, counseling can help you strengthen resilience and reconnect with what matters most to you.
I offer individual counseling for individuals in Centennial, and the broader Denver Metropolitan Area. I also offer online counseling for residents throughout Colorado, giving you flexible options for care in a way that fits your life.
Common Topics in Individual Counseling Include:
Everyone’s story is unique, but here are some of the areas clients often bring into therapy:
- Stress management – finding balance between work, family, and personal responsibilities
- Anxiety and worry – calming the nervous system and learning practical tools to cope
- Depression – navigating sadness, loss of energy, or lack of motivation with support
- Grief and loss – making space for emotions and healing after loss or life changes
- Relationships – building healthier communication, setting boundaries, and strengthening self-worth
- Life transitions – adjusting to career shifts, parenting challenges, caregiving, or aging
- Identity and self-discovery – exploring values, confidence, and what matters most to you
- Trauma and recovery – processing past experiences in a safe and compassionate way
- Coping skills – practicing mindfulness, grounding, and evidence-based tools (CBT, ACT, DBT)
My goal in therapy is for you to see and feel growth through the process.
We have moments where you see how you respond and feel differently than before, and you continue to make choices that create a more meaningful life.
You will be able to look at every version of yourself, which I’ll explain in our first session what versions I mean. You will look in the mirror and like what you see.
Intentional Honesty: We live in a time where things are often filtered or watered down. We’re sometimes too ashamed to be honest and truthful. I take a lot of pride in gaining your respect and trust for our therapeutic relationship. And when the time comes, and it always does, I will be honest with you to help you experience breakthroughs and create the change you want in life.
I’ll be there with you… step by step.
It can be scary to admit you need help, but you can acknowledge that you want more and want to see how to get more. I can help you see that and do it in an honest, intentionally inspiring way.
Imagine waking up rested and optimistic about what the day has to offer!

Individual Counseling FAQs
What Is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy is one-on-one counseling where you and I work together to explore the challenges you’re facing, identify patterns, and develop tools to help you feel more balanced and supported. It’s a confidential space where you can share openly, reflect, and create meaningful change at your own pace.
What to Expect in Individual Therapy?
Therapy is a safe, confidential space where you don’t have to carry things on your own. In our sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to share openly about what’s on your mind and what you’re going through. Together, we’ll identify your goals and work at a pace that feels right for you.
Depending on your needs, sessions may include:
- Learning coping skills and mindfulness practices to manage stress or anxiety
- Exploring patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and relationships
- Gaining deeper insight into past experiences and how they affect you now
- Building confidence, resilience, and healthier ways of responding to challenges
Every person’s journey in therapy is different. Some people focus on practical skills and strategies, while others want space for reflection and deeper self-discovery. My role is to walk alongside you, offering support, perspective, and tools that help you move toward growth and healing.
What Are Common Reasons to Seek Individual Therapy?
People choose individual therapy for many different reasons. Some are facing specific challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, grief, or trauma. Others come because of relationship struggles, life transitions, or a desire to strengthen self-worth and boundaries.
Therapy can also be a meaningful space when you’re not in crisis but simply want time to reflect, grow, and better understand yourself. Whether you’re looking for practical tools to cope day-to-day or deeper insight into patterns in your life, counseling provides a supportive space to work toward the changes you want.
Do You Work With Children and Teens?
My practice focuses on adults, and I do not see clients who are 16 years old or younger. I do, however, occasionally include spouses or partners in therapy sessions on a case-by-case basis, but I do not provide couples therapy. This allows me to provide focused, personalized support for each individual while maintaining a safe and effective therapeutic environment.
How Long Are Sessions?
Standard therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. For clients who may benefit from a shorter or longer session, I also offer 30-minute sessions or extended sessions when appropriate. This flexibility allows us to tailor each appointment to your needs and schedule.
Do You Offer Telephone or Video Chat Sessions?
Yes, teletherapy and video counseling sessions are available for all services provided by Penrose Counseling to Colorado Residents. Learn more about online therapy sessions or contact me to schedule a free consultation.
